Comedy Fantasy Writer Plugs Book Because Marketing?

My name is Shy MacShannon and I am a (soon-to-be published) Fantasy Comedy author. I’m currently working on my debut Chuck the Chosen, a comedic fantasy about a 34-year-old guy who just wants to know if this whole chosen thing comes with any benefits, like a pay cheque perhaps.

Working Hard < Hardly Working

I am a firm believer that birthdays should be celebrated to the fullest in whatever way that means to you.

For me, it means:

• Taking a much needed writing break. Specifically, writing for this blog and social media (but still editing because I just can’t bring myself to step away from CTC right now). Working but less pressure is what we’re going for here.
• Reading! Like, A LOT! Right now I’m reading the fourth Zodiac Academy because I managed to get a free trial of KU for three months. But I will be getting back to Dungeon Crawler Carl…at some point
• Eating tacos and cake on my actual birthday because that is mine and my families tradition (and this time maybe we’ll bake them because omg does that elevate the entire taco experience)
• Playing more video games. I purchased the Disney Dreamlight Valley expansion and I also want to play Adorable Adventures because why wouldn’t I want to play as an adorable pig!?!

• Socializing with at least one friend. I highly suggest finding someone who shares the same birthday month as you, it changes things. *sigh* but adult friendships means this will be after our birthdays.
• Oh and maybe try and solve my newsletter problem. Note to self, when I figure out how something works, write it down so when I come back to it two weeks later I know how to do it again!

Current Standing in Editing Process

I am currently reading through and rewriting chapter 8 which is titled “Can’t We at Least Sanitize the Swords Hilt Before You Make Me Touch It?”. This is the King Arthur chapter and there’s some pretty funny stuff in there but it needs more depth. Overall, that’s what I’ve been pushing myself towards. The comedy was there from the beginning but the characters needed to be more thought out and I was struggling to understand their motivations.

I’d like to keep the humor of this chapter. Specifically, there’s one joke in there that frankly makes me laugh every time I read it over but I’d like to create more suspense and mystery surrounding who or what the bad guy of this story is or isn’t doing.

We’ll see if I can pull it off. I’ll be relying on beta readers when I get to that step to determine if I’m successful.

TTYL or Whatever

With that being said, May will be a month of silence…well for anyone on the internet. Unfortunately for those who know me in real life I will NOT be silent. But they know what they signed up for!

Is it overly princess like of me to celebrate my birthday for a whole month? Perhaps…but I’m an adult and no one can stop me!!!
