For those of you who don’t know, my name is Shy MacShannon and I am a Canadian (soon-to-be published) author. I’m currently working on my debut Chuck the Chosen, a comedic fantasy about a 34-year-old guy who just wants to know if this whole chosen thing comes with any benefits, like a pay cheque perhaps.
Now for the update!
I started my second draft! And you know what, I haven’t completely changed every single thing so far! But then I got sick! Woooooo! I’m behind schedule and trying not to stress about it. The goal is to publish this year in general so it’s perfectly fine if I don’t publish when I wanted to, so long as it’s before December 31st at midnight.
I’m rewriting chapter 5 currently. There’s alot that I think may need tightening in later drafts but overall I’ve been pretty happy with how much I actually want to keep. I’m also getting more creative with my chapter titles now that I know what each of them include. Chapter 5 is titled, “Sir, Vogue Called and They Want Me to Let You Know It’s Weird to Wear People’s Skin”. This is also the chapter where a hilarious random fact is shared about Henry the brownie. I don’t want to spoil it, so please just trust me on this.
Current word count is 14,736. Considering chapter 2 went from 3,127 to 4,796, I’ve effectively been managing to up the word count by giving more descriptors.
Fun fact, I just found out that the author of Project Hail Mary doesn’t have a movie playing in his head as he writes. Crazy right? Now if only I could do a better job of conveying the images in my head to paper…baby steps.
Hmmmm, what else? I have to wait until May to find out if the agent I’m querying likes my children’s book. And I should find out by end of this month whether one of my short stories was selected. I’m not holding my breath but I’m also not assuming I won’t get it…so I guess that means I’m being realistic? I think that’s what that’s called, not too familiar with that type of thing though. It’s either optimistic delusion or doom and gloom, ya know? There shall be no in-betweens! Except for when it’s appropriate…like right now!
I am slowly making my way through the Dungeon Crawler series. At some point I want to do a bit of a case study on how Dinniman managed to blow up the way he did. I personally find it interesting so maybe someone else will too.
I think that’s it for now!
As always, stay writing because productivity has maybe become your entire personality at this point 🤷🏻♀️
