I am officially finished the first draft of Chuck the Chosen!!!
I look forward to starting edits but for now we need to tell the self-doubt to suck it. And we also need a break.
The first draft came in at a little over 64k which is officially the most I’ve ever written so that’s pretty cool. Like I said in a previous post, I plan on upping that word count as I add in more details. My hope is for this to be over 300 pages by the time I’m ready to publish but we’ll see what happens.
In the meantime, I plan on reading like ALOT. I picked up a copy of Self-Editing for Fiction Writers by Renni Browne and Dave King that I’m hoping will give me some insight into the next steps I’ll be taking in the coming weeks. Other then that, I have an obscene amount of books that I can read…and I might need to put myself on a book buying ban because we’ve been bad again. Not to mention I started a reread of A Court of Mist and Fury rather then reading literally anything else that is readily available both physically and on my ereader. Sometimes we just need a comfort read!
I also came across a short story I had started titled “A Study in Creature Behaviour” that I’m curious to explore further on top of the literary short story I had hoped to finish this year.
Okay, other updates! I had another rejection for a short story but that’s okay! On to the next. I’m trying my hand at Friction Magazine, one that I’ve sent to once before. I’m hoping this particular story is a little more in line with what they publish as the last story I sent…well, sometimes you need to shoot your shot even when the direction is completely off. It was “Session with Dr. G” that I had sent to him so I guess plus side, their rejection led me to post it here!
Cross your fingers for this one! Hopefully the next time I post I also have an update on the literary agent I sent my children’s book to.
As always, stay writing…except when you actually need a break! Those are okay too!
