I didn’t post any updates for the last two days…but I didn’t take a break even though maybe I should have.
I’m sure anyone who is simply working on something, whether it’s a book, a painting, maybe even a table, knows that there comes a point in the project where it’s difficult to pause. When I say it’s like pulling at teeth to get me away from my desk, that’s not even a strong enough analogy.
Does that mean every minute of my free time is spent at my desk, and every minute of sitting at my desk is spent being productive… well, no. But stop judging me.
No, the truth is I am working on my second draft. I decided the method I thought would work best for me given what I hope to accomplish with the second draft was to literally rewrite it. So I’m rocking a split screen for the foreseeable future until I hit the word goal I’m hoping for.
I’m also tying up loose ends I left dangling in the wind because let me tell you, I’m not even entirely sure what I meant by some of what I wrote.
The issue I’m facing is, I wrote the first 20k words over a year ago and so there are things I was apparently setting up that current me completely forgot about. Plus side, some of it has been a blessing because it will make what I’m calling “the weaving process” easier. It’s kind of like reading your work and going “Oh! That was actually a good idea. Go me!”
I am currently 10, 227 words into the second draft and I’ve managed to add 1,465 words. So at least I know this method is working. There are parts I know need tightening and currently I think there might be too much telling. It’s a tight rope between giving the reader the information they need and not info dumping…I’m not sure I’ve perfected the balancing act yet.
That’s all for now!
Stay writing cause it’s all starting to feel like it’s real.
